He was right on top Adam. There were so many sharks sometimes it was hard to know whether it was a Cobia or a shark. We got 3 good cobia all right on the surface with the eggbeaters.

Nice fish Rosco. They are a good fish on the tooth. Last time in Exy me and my mate got a double hookup on Cobia of a similar size to yours, they were swimming with a manta ray that crused by. The funny thing is that my fish went berserk and was a real struggle to land, whereas my mates fish came in a gentle as a lamb.

on cobia resulted in my mates new reel melting.......

probably about 8 manta's crusing around teh boat

literally gaffed the fish aboard and his reel desintigrated on the spot...

I was still hooked up to mine, in the interim, and both landed at  approx 1.2m each

can still visualise the experience.

They can certainly be a tough fish Damo, as stated mine went berko and my mates just cruised in. Different story once he sunk the gaff in however........ but a love tap on the head soon sorted that out.

I reckon, pound for pound, they would have to be one of the strongest fish around.

that particulary instance the water glassed off and I looked around and spotted all these fins.....which in the distance I assumed were dolphins....so in came all the livies cause we were sitting on a bait school.....

packed up and turned around again to look and suddenly the fins turned out to be the wings of the manta's....mad srcamble....

out goes popper..smashed and huge cobia busted me off when another manta hit the line......lure sent flying......same agian.....

third time lucky and took about 25 minutes to kand the bugger on 25kg braid.......

didn't even have to turn the engine on and chase the manta's, they would go past turn and come back past the boat.......never forget it mate.

was my mates only reel and he just spent $80 at bluewater for line...

best curry in the camp oven also....
