Finally cracked the Pinks

Finally cracked the Pinks

After 15 years of fishing Perth waters, my mate and I both finally got a sized metro Pinkie on Saturday. We had caught 100's of undersized Pinks up to that point.

3 of us headed out about 3pm for a troll for mackerel behind Garden Island. After about an hour with no luck, we decided to give bottom bouncing a go. We basically drifted along 5 Fathom Bank and I managed an undersized Dhu early on. Pretty quiet for the next hour until one of the boys rods screamed off and then went bang!

We were all now focused as we felt today was our day. Not much later, my rod screamed and after a nervous fight, up came a glorious 60cm Pinkie. There were plenty of high fives and cheers as you could imagine after so many failed attempts.

Whilst unhooking mine, my mates rod starts screaming and he's calling it early for a big pink. He was right and up came a nice 70cm model.

Our other mate, who also hadn't caught a metro snapper wasn't so lucky. He got busted off (first fish too big - second fish the leader was bitten through), third fish the hooks pulled (my dodgy knot) and fourth fish spat the hooks.

Not the best picture, but it's proof none the less.

Congrats mate. Nothing like finally getting into some after so much effort. Hopefully just the beginning.
