so you have broken 80lb line

Sun, 2010-02-14 14:37

so you have broken 80lb line with less than 50lb of pressure...you need better knots or your brand of line is telling lies.

You have to remember that the 15kg of drag may not be the limit of the drag washers themselves but of the reel internals and body casting. You may end up with a destroyed reel

I think he meant locked drag

Sun, 2010-02-14 17:07

I think he meant locked drag it snaps 80lb (locked drag isnt usesable drag because its not actually drag of course). The less than 50lb pressure was 'drag pressure' (but not what the reel was under when it broke the line).

Agree with not trying to snap it. Dont know how confident I would be trying to snap 80lb braid on a reel. Though, at the end of the day, if you own the reel, what you do is up to you :p

I always like to think that when a manufacturer says max drag that i'll be able to handle that on all the internals (handling the line you'd use for the max drag is a different story). It would be awesome if someone tested them out and gave actual breaking stresses for reels :D (though, repeatedly using less force might also break it anyways, so i guess it would be hard to test).

noah as i was there i can stand by the comment made by nelly.
so there for maybe you could suggest a better know than a pr knot ?
and secondly the braid used was ygk maybe you could suggest a better braid?

all that was stated was that nelly beleived that the reel busted out more than 15kgs of drag so why is it that you have begged to differ the scales used were made by a very reputable manufacturer and read the same as the two sets of scales i own could all three scales be wrong maybe???

you stated "so you have broken 80lb line with less than 50lb of pressure...you need better knots or your brand of line is telling lies."
we maxed out the 60lb scales well and truely when it broke and i stand by ygk holding the strenght it states. also the line broke 5 m above the knot so therefore how could the knot play anypart in the break of the line. this particular reel DOES put out more than 15kg of drag unless of course you could suggest another floor in the way the line was tested?

i third that question!,ive used ygk heaps, and i reckon its one of the best out there, and it says the reel does 30kg on the magazine and the web aswel,so im pretty sure the drag would be at least close to 25kg,max locked,,very nice reel by the way

Do you really need 30kg of drag??
Surely 15kg is plenty to hang on to, let alone if the reel can handle it or not.

Mon, 2010-02-15 14:03

Have a quick check of ur drag first before you go out and use it, only reason is that mine came out of the box missing one of the drag washer's. wasnt too impressed!

Its amazing how some people don't understand/over estimate their drag pressure!

Seriously 15kg of drag most people would struggle to hold onto...

Just check with scales the next time you go out and you'll be amazed how much 7-8kg of drag actually is.

And yeh it was a miss print on the Saltist's box, 30lb was the intended "max" drag!

I will only be running 10kg

Tue, 2010-02-16 05:56

I will only be running 10kg through this reel while i am fishing as thats heaps i was more testing it out of curiousity..What i don't understand is why there is drag washers that can handle so much drag in this reel..whats your standard bloke going to do if he takes this out sambo jigging, probably lock it down not many people check drag with scales.

I agree

15kg of drag will stretch most arms, and hanging on to 30kg needs Poppie arms.

The smoothness of the drag is what counts for me

Tue, 2010-02-16 08:37

And these reels are very smooth
