I reckon it's a Gold-spotted sweetlip. (Plectorhinchus flavomaculatus)
The Gold-spotted Sweetlips can be recognised by its colouration. It is grey to brown with numerous yellow to orange spots on the body, dorsal fin and anal fin. Juveniles have orange and grey-blue lines on the head and body that break into spots as a fish ages.
This species grows to 60 cm in length.
It occurs in tropical and some temperate marine waters of the Indo-West Pacific.
In Australia it is known from the south-western coast of Western Australia, around the tropical north and south to the southern coast of New South Wales.
yeah i didnt think they might have been great to eat thats why i let it go, beside if in doubt of any fish being edible or not i would always go the photo and release and keep next time if they are any good
Young people chat? So do us zimmer frame set , while Ryan, Steve (Palumbo) Tony, Honshu, Mav, other's and I were watching the fishing vid, I seem to recall you were out the back chatting up Tony's wife.
Caught a few out of portgregory They have been called sand snapper ,or black snapper ,cut one up to use as bait but nothing touched it ,the meat was very dark and it was not tried .

Hmmmm
Interesting one Matt
If I was to go by the lips, I would say Morwong, has the spots of a Dusky as oppossed to the Blue. But the pectoral fins are all wrong.

Dont think so
Don't think so Mike as I said. look at the pectoral fin. Nope not a buff.
If I combine both the lips and the pectoral fin shape - I'm leaning towards a sweetlip.

alaskin malamutes!
Matt, before you go any further - here's a shovel - it's comptable with your direction, in that it only digs (downwards) (not covers holes)
as for alaskin malamutes, that's OK Matt, you don't have to explain why you were talking doggy positions.
