I'd say an ex hatchery by the condition of him. A few worn down fins but otherwize he was in pretty good nick.
He actualy swam right past my mates feet, the 3 or us shouldered each other out of the way taking turns at casting lures to it. He finaly decided to grab a cheep black spinner with a gold blade. It's amazing how a trout can be fussy and turn its nose up at top shelf $20 lures , then grab a $3 spinner bought at the servo on the way to the dam .
Thats fishing for ya, always get surprises no matter how much you think youve seen or know .
Yeah i went yesterday , very frustrating, watching trout rise at sun up but all out of casting distance. Then in the late morning trout were cruzing along the small drop off's , chasing our lures but not many would commit to strike.
The ones we did hook all did the jump / flip / and dehooked them selves. Afew other guy's down there did very good , it's just hard to pick the right area to fish at dawn when they start to rise. One morning they might be in one area the next time they are somewear else.
Did you stay until nightfall, been hearing that late arvo's are going off compared to mornings.
You find the trout less shy during the week? A lot of ppl there last weekend and by mid morning it was hard to spot one.
Bloody fishing hey, spending $100 of dollars just to watch them on swim by!!! At least by the second trip down I had learnt to stop using hardbodies near standing timber, I lost 5 lures first visit.
If i don't get a nice trout next time I might have to drown my sorrows big time.
Everyone seems to be getting into some nice trout this year, my plan was to give em a hit this weekend with my boy but someone decided i didnt need my fishing gear anymore and thought they could help themselves and liberate it from my possession......
Keep trying mate. I have only landed one brown myself, funny tho it was my first ever trout. I seem to catch rainbows all the time but see plenty of browns follow my lures. It seems every time i take a newbie trout fishing they catch a nice brown as their first fish. I still am working out what makes them hit lures one day then turn their nose up at them the next day. But cant seem to crack the code.
Caught hundreds of trout, yet I have never got a brown or even seen one follow or hit my lures. Had a couple of follows which I thought could have been browns by none certain. Have to go up and give Harvey another crack sometime soon.

Yeah you re right...
If you're getting good fish like that on $3 lures it makes you wonder what the $20 top shelf lure is doing .........apart from catching a fisherman!

None for me
None for me, thats the way it goes i suppose. Take every one down, show them how to do it, then they all out fish me . Ha Ha .
Seriously tho , as long as someone gets a nice fish i'm happy. Especialy if they have never caught one before.

Awesome brown there, still
Awesome brown there, still one of my top goals is to catch a brown in WA.
Get plenty of rainbows and Redfin, any advice on the browns? They seem to be much more difficult!
