Harvey Marron
Submitted by Big Kev on Thu, 2009-01-22 10:44
My mate and I went up to Harvey last night to try our luck at snaring Marron, its not an easy task it was our first time using this method but we were happy with our 8 just 2 short of our limit, it was getting late so we called it a day.

Snaring Marron
Hi John, Yeah its hard at first but if your persistant you'll figure them out. They wont sit still for long so you have to act fast, we found if you put the dull ring of light from your torch on them they will stay still but put the full beam on them and they take off like a rocket. Once you have the snare loop behind there tail put the torch beam in front of the Marron and sometimes they walk back into the loop then you simply pull the loop tight but its very tricky.

Yep! thats the way Kev. I
Yep! thats the way Kev. I used to scoop net always years ago and always thought snaring would be hard, but once you get the hang of it its great fun and not so hard to get them. Just a bit of practice like most things. Harvey is part of the 'Trophy Waters" program so you have to snare and the size limit is 90mm but there are some real good size ones at Harvey and providing its not too windy you'll get them.
I will check my Preston River spot out next week and if it still produces I'll let you know.
