Hayley's First Marlin
Submitted by Lucky Tim on Mon, 2009-05-18 20:00
I took Hayley out to catch her first marlin today and after a good run on the billfish lately hopes were high. It was pretty sloppy weather but after 1.5 hours trolling we were on. Her biggest fish before this was a longtail tuna then a King George whiting but she fought it well and 15 minutes later I traced her first at around 15kg. After a few pics I jumped in to film the release which went well. Unfortunatly that was in for the day except a dolly that she lost at the boat. Hopefully it's the first of many for her.

Very well done!
You're certainly a tinny bugger Tim, and it looks like its rubbed off on Hayley.....
Keep the pics coming, it gives me hope until my next fishing trip when I can get away from Perth.
P.S. Hope she didn't get a rash from the marlin on her exposed arms. Its allegedly itchy as buggery......

Nah no itch from this fish
Nah no itch from this fish Huggy, I've only got that once so far and it was from a sailfish. Wasn't itchy just a mild burning feeling.
I'm waiting on a windy day to sort all the other pics from the last few weeks to post up so they're coming don't worry.

you need to give her 2
you need to give her 2 glasses next time Oz, she didn't have much left in the arms if it went on another run.

100m exactly Simo, right in
100m exactly Simo, right in that area where we were trolling the other day. Heaps of scattered weed made it hard, it only cleared up out past 100m, even then it was still around but in bigger groups. Pretty lousy day weather wise too.

Nice fish Hayley
Nothing like catching that first one. Then the addiction starts. but it isn't a bad addiction to have, I have survived with mine for some time now. oh how to eplain the rush of pandomoniam on the boat screeming reels and retreival of everything from the water. oh!admn can't wait to get out again.
