heart breaking

After an awesome visual strike on the short corner, a big jump straight up to show the size and a 30 minute fight this fish wore through the leader just as we were getting ready to grab it. Talk about heart breaking and it would've been a great chery popping first marlin for Pierce. Easy 120kg plus.

Nice Fish
That must have been devastating to loose it so close in.

Devastating
That's so unlucky. I've had a few that got away but never a fish anything like a marlin. I'm sure it will make the one you guys land in the future only more special.

Too bad Pierce, but at least you know what the fun is about now.
Good luck on the next one!

Unlucky Tim
Pardon the pun mate. Good fish would have been a heartstopper to see the line go slack!

it was a 12 foot 150lb wind
it was a 12 foot 150lb wind on which was attached to a 250lb 6 foot leader with the lure on it. It wore through or broke the wind on.
All been upgraded now so it's not going to happen again.

mate, that was an awsome
mate, that was an awsome fish, You had the great excitement of seeing it jump, fight it and nearly get it to the boat. Nothing wrong with such an awsome experience.
Well done
Tony

Close enough
Could call it as caught if you had hands on the leader but bad luck if the end of the leader is a foot out of reach.

Bad luck Tim. I know the
Bad luck Tim. I know the feeling. Still gutted about dropping that marlin in Bay. Have tried numerous more times without even a sniff. Getting a few tuna to keep me going. Least in Exy there will be another one just around the corner.

Bad Luck
Tim,
but great photo.
This marlin game is all new to me, all the reads and all the practice doesn't allow for that X Factor that makes the difference between caught and lost.
I think I might go away and upgrade my 100lb leaders for the forthcoming trip.

It happens
That's fishing I guess. I agree; as good as caught. Raised and hooked is at least half the battle. Top fish that will keep you going back for more beaky battles.
