Generally called slate snapper, can be eaten if bled and spiked immediately and straight on cold slurry. Can't comment on the taste, but a few people keep them, they generally ask the same question though - what is it. ;)

We cut a slate snapper up for bait in exmouth. My god those things smell horrible, even fresh. If I gave to to my MIL-equivalent, I'd get slapped!
