Business

They'll do the business OT but I'm not to sure about that dodgy looking clip setup on the back of lures 1 and 3.

Lose them

Tue, 2008-12-09 18:39

Whatever they are they will eventually cost you a fish OT, more than likely a good one.

You used to be able to get oval shaped split rings. If they are still available they will be perfect for connecting the treble hooks to your lures.

As for opening the rings, a proper pair of split ring pliers would be ideal but as you may not use them that often just use the point of a sharp hook pushed between the rings to open them.

Taper

Tue, 2008-12-09 18:46

Maybe taper the end with a hand file so the metal is not so thick OR file back some of the excess metal between the hole and the end of the lure to reduce the distance that the ring needs to be opened.

Better quality rings will also have more 'spring', enabling them to be distorted more and still return to their original shape.

Pricey

Tue, 2008-12-09 18:53

The smaller owner rings are a bit pricey but have good spring. If you reduce the thickness of the metal though you might be able to get away with your existing rings.

old favourite is to run trace through a barrel sinker then attach trebles. paint it white and wind like hell. creates a nice bubble trail

Yep

Shark mackerel and mackerel tuna love those lures Damo6230. Doesn't hurt to much if you get sharked either.
