How was your Friday - Mine was yellow
Back on Pohnpei for three weeks in between stints in Cairns supporting a patrol boat refit. Headed out today for a session and hooked up this solid yellowfin in the first hour. I caught another three smaller models and three skipjack tuna. I had a double hook-up at one stage, one of the fish was a small blue marlin the other bigger fish we didn't see. We lost the marlin as it when one way and the unseen went the other, hard to fight to fish going in opposite directions at speed. Called the unseen one for a shark when I lost the lot after twenty minutes and found the line bit cleanly through. This theory was enforced when we started trolling beside the school again and hooked up solid again. At first we thought (hoped) it was the marlin that came back again, unfortunately it came in way to easy and ended up being a solid oceanic shark that often swim with the yellowfin schools. Bastard thing. We also had another marlin strike about half an hour later, no hook up and he just swam beside the lure for about a minute before cruising off. Oh well. I'm not going to complain, the mission was to catch a big fish and I ticked it off. Maybe I should have gone home after the first hour......

Stripped 300m of Penn 50 in a heart beat and didn't give up until it was boat side. Awesome fish.
