this particular one was caught in 80 metres. most of the big jacks (over 10 kg) ive caught have been from 60 metres to 140 metres. they grow up in creeks then move offshore as they get bigger. the proof? microorganisms that only exist in the muddy banks of tropical creeks have been found in a very percentage of researched larger offshore jacks, the small fish eat the organism, the jack eats the small fish, then organism is in its system forever, doing no harm to the fish.im not much of a scientist myself , but thats pretty good proof if you ask me. interesting side note, on the deeper water spots, one in particular, i have caught big jacks, amberjacks, pearl perch, hapuka , grey band and pink snapper on the same line.
