KG Whiting on placcies- they never look as big in photos

KG Whiting on placcies- they never look as big in photos

After doing the long haul across the Nullarbor we finally made it to Ceduna, I lasted a hour in town before taking off for my secret KG whiting hole. This was one of 9 I kept from the shore on plastics. They were all high 30's or low 40cm, plus one massive garfish. All filleted and in the freezer now, going out for snapper, more whiting and abalone tomorrow. It's good to be on holidays.
Stay tuned.

yep it still fires up and

yep it still fires up and I've never ever seen anyone else fishing anywhere near it in over 8 years. Always a good go to spot when the chips are down.
Also that was the first kg I've ever seen with fright colours, I nearly had some myself after falling down reef holes that I swear weren't there last time.

yeah the drive over was

Wed, 2009-12-23 06:14

yeah the drive over was uneventful Brad, ended up having a 5 hour sleep near the border. Pity about the 2.5 hours we lose in time changes but it's reminding me how good daylight savings is. Can't complain when it's still daylight at 9pm.
And Faulkners, I was still working when I was up north so it wasn't all "holidays", just gotta make the most of the days off!

Nice KG mate! Whats the hot

Wed, 2009-12-23 08:43

Nice KG mate! Whats the hot soft placcie for them? I've tried a few and had a little interest but never actually hooked up on one. Always had to go back to the old faithful prawns to get a feed! Planning to try some more in busselton this chrissy on the sps.

Gday Goodz, Been doing a lot

Wed, 2009-12-23 10:11

Gday Goodz,

Been doing a lot of SP fishing for sandies over the ban period. Have found Gulp sandworms 5cm in the natural colour to work well. Have also been using small river2sea poppers dont work as well but can be great fun when there on the bite. Try fishing straight down from Dunsborough town all the way to fish rock. Best times is when its hot and no wind. Give us a PM if you want any more info.

Cheers

Brendan

yeah it's one of the light

Wed, 2009-12-23 15:02

yeah it's one of the light starlo stix 7' rods.
And the placcies we used that day were Gulp sandworms in natural colour, I think they were 6" bit I generally break them into 3 pieces or else the whiting seem to nip the tail and eventually get it off the hook. I've also used Atomic prongs, slam worms, and little paddle tail grubs with success too.

You just have to stop working out so much Tim or those fish are continually going to look smaller and smaller!!!

Mmmm, whiting. What kinda

Wed, 2009-12-23 23:40

Mmmm, whiting.

What kinda gear were you using there Tim? looks like a light rod (which is the fun way to do it). Is it mono or braid on there. Looks kinda shiny for braid (but could just be the light/angle). Looks a bit like saltwater hard mono perhaps?

the rod is a 1-3kg starlo

Thu, 2009-12-24 07:46

the rod is a 1-3kg starlo stix with a 2500 twinpower and the line is Rovex braid, 10lb I think. Lures were all Gulp that day on TT 1/20 jig heads.
They're great fighters on that gear, they even just about bricked me a few times on the little ledges where I was fishing.
