Last fish before the closure.
Decided to go for our last demersal fish yesterday prior to the closures.
We started in 40m of water n/w of Mindarie with soft plastics and after a succession of sergeant bakers, gurnards, and paddle tails coming back up with no tails left, we made a move to deeper water.
The intention was to still fish the S/P's out deep but after a few drops we came to the realization that it was next to impossible to keep in contact with the bottom, even with 5oz heads. The change was made to bait and 30 odd oz sinkers that still struggled to hold bottom, due to a very fast drift.
Perseverance paid off in the end with us taking home dhufish of 12 and 8 kgs a baldchin and a good breaksea cod with various other fish released during the course of the day.
Nice way to wrap up a fairly productive year for us.

Marko, the sambos are pretty
Marko, the sambos are pretty high on the priority list as well as find some reliable KG spots. Actually looking forward to the break as it makes us fish differently for other species.
Tim, I've already got a bit of fish in the freezer so with that lot, I'm sure I'll get over the line.
Ron, I've not really heard anything too convincing yet in regards to the barges, but we will have to get out there once they start congregating.
It was a horrendous drift there on Saturday which made the fishing tough. They were on the chew first thing and shut down around 10.30 but came back on the bite later in the afternoon, enough for John to put his dhuie onboard. In regards to the baldy, that's the second one we've had from this area in as many trips, but as you said you don't see them often.

Tony, It's a new patch of ground we found a couple of trips ago. It's over the other side of the bank in the deeper stuff.

Nice catch there and
Nice catch there and something to remember until next season, just a question though, how would they stop people fishing for the demersals and such, i mean someone could make up a story like they were fishing for other species but still fish the demesals and chuck it back, dont understand how they will enforce it.

I remember last season they
I remember last season they were on the barges from early November, but the size wasn't really cracking. Once the boats were hitting the Hillarys Aggregation a week later the size was excellent. Later in the season, there were better fish on the barges.

You are dead right Pete, I
You are dead right Pete, I live across the road from what would have to be the very last block of land left in the estate, which is an overgrown jungle of the who's who of every weed known to man, hence the state of my lawn!!
On a worse note, it seems as though I'm up for a new air compressor for the outboard as we discovered a problem when flushing the motor from this trip. I'm thinking a bolt was left out when last serviced....
