Smooth as you would expect for the price BUT I have a little bit of play already in the winding arm that goes thru the body, not much but a little. Nice drag too. I'll see if it lasts before I rate it but nice to fish with it at the moment Spess. Another cheaper model is the Penn Applause. I still have it and it's caught a couple Salmon and other fish. Happy with that one and alot cheaper. MAXY
Ive got a couple of the penn applauses and rate them as the best off the shelf reel at around $120 bucks! The 6000 size is awsome and perfect off the beach from salmon to sharks. Plenty of grunt and nice drag, they were originally a ryobi made reel and penn took it over.
