I recon chinaman are about the hardest pulling demersal there is. Never give up! Hopefully he was released to fight another day as they don't taste that good compared with other stuff up that way and they are too good to catch just once!!!!
i agree John F , i caught one about 12kg landbsed st barrow island many years ago and i am still amazed at the hiding that it gave me , very tough fish for sure!!
IMO is a fantastic eating fish with firm white flesh. However you have to be very careful where you eat them as they are the numero uno carrier of ciguetera in some parts. Fortunately not in WA, and certainly not in the Pilbarra at all. Agree with the fight, weight for weight will pull a GT backward IMO. Big Paddle tail and a powerful body.
Well done milsey. We caught a few Chinaman when we were at Warroora earlier in the year and I agree they are a hard fighting fish. We tried one on the tooth and they are not all good in my book. All our fish were caught in 40 mtrs or less and released well after the 1st failed culinary experiance.
When we got up there the place was full, we wanted to stay at sandy point but like all the other southern spots was full and the only place with beach front views was 14 mile. We kept the boat infront of our camp so it worked out ok, but next time I head up it will deffinently be earlier in the year and not during school holidays. For a first time up there tho it worked out pretty well having some seasoned veterans around us.
hey miles sorry havent posted moved house in last couple of weeks and only just got my own internet back on this week glad you got into some fish finally i find it funny as i said on the phone at times
nice fish you have there and the rest of the photos you posted of the trip one day we might have to catch up for a fish good luck
