G’day troops.
I’m new to the website and wanted to make my first post – I’ve been learning a lot from you all with the content posted, thanks. I’m new to Perth, so need all the coaching available to get my average up.
I got out on Saturday and caught a couple 50+cm whiting on the drift. Got one BA cod too. South wester was a bit of a bummer though!

Hello Andy, I usually fish
Hello Andy, I usually fish around Mindarie. I’ve done a couple of trips out off Two Rocks, but was put off by the mammoth line up upon returning to the ramp.
I like the set up at Mindarie, good ramp. I have fished quite a bit at Gemini Wreck, but not a lot of luck yet.

The tank has a ballast flap to lock water on board if you have a heavy sea to travel in. Gives good stability at rest as it causes the spray chines to sink under the water line.
I got the full fit out in NZ, folding hard top, bait board, walk thru tranny, ballast flap, folding windscreen, live tanks etc (fits in any garage 2.1m high) in NZ for under $35K.
With the 17degree deadrise it’s a soft ride, very tender if you launch with the ballast flap closed to maintain shallow draft though. I’d recommend trim tabs with the clean entry hull, or she’ll thump hard if listed over while underway. I launch all the time on my own, and retrieval is easier than launching with a smart catch at the winch stem. Awesome boat, still feels small when you get to the ramp and the 6.5m+ boys are there but!

Sunday
Spent last Sunday sucking down a carton of Carlton Premium Dry with the neihgbours out th eback of my place. We had dhuie wings, exmouth prawns, mandurah crabs all on the barbie, had a swim and sat there listening to Pink Floyd "The Wall".
Would have preferred to have gone for a fish but.
Any chance you can post a pic of your boat Jason, it sounds awesome.
Cheers

Perth diving
Painted crays look awsome in the magazines - better in the glove I bet. I have only been out a couple times. Had a dive from the shore at Mindarie on Sunday, seen a few crays, but all right back in caves, couldn't get me big head in far enough to reach them! Your right, it was pretty poor viz. Seen some buff bream and a sea snake - them buggers are freindly :-(
Keen to get out on Staggies and have a look, any pointers on good cray diving spots aroung Mindarie?
Cheers Jason

Diving...
yeh diving has been great but not lately. like raja was saying bad winds and dirty water gives us no chance of going out, me and raja went out like a month ago (which was the last trip). about 8 or 9m (freedive) of nice reef and blubone was everywhere. spotted a school of morwong and a coral trout, didnt get any that day... so looks like ur bit of a keen diver too. so hows it going with that?

Yea mate, luv the free diving, I just moved here from New Zealand where I was working for a bit over 2 years (from South Aussie originally). Dived around the north island, heaps of Kingies, Snapper and crays. Got some underwater photo’s of these green crays they call Pack Horse Cray’s (funny name), they have to be a bit over a kilo to be legal, and grow to massive beasts. The undersize ones are really friendly, and come out to have a look at you.
I haven’t been out much around Perth, works been flat out. Seen some small crays on Sunday, but didn't bother them.

G'day German
Hello, yeh good size fillets. Found a good patch of spikes behind the first reef north of Mindarie, too rough to anchor, the drift did the trick for a feed. Had a dive at that spot at Mindarie we looked at the other week, plenty of small crays, the odd bigger one, but pretty timid. See ya when ya get back.

Diving places
Gday Stingray and welcome to the forum. If you need a reasonable place for a shore dive then two rocks itself isn't all that bad (providing that there is not alot of weed build up).Generally you can get a good catch of crays from leemans landing and from just off the marina you will see the "two rocks" that the town is named after. Both these areas are good for crays (have done fairly well of them)and the cray holes in the reef are usually not to deep so you at least get a chance at the buggers. From Mindarie if you head left from the harbour you will see a reef marker bouy approx. 2nmiles distance from harbour and on its day produced good catches for me.Just a couple of spots to get you started mate.Hope to have helped.
