I dont have the mentality that i need to take whatever i can. A photo would be enough for me and it is good enough
for braggin rights if your into that!
That is a breeder and i would have felt alot better letting it go then filleting it later!
noha has a good point too though, it is irresistible too let such a great fish go ... i personally would release it .. i dont even like killing herring if im not going to cook it up lol!!
i have to be honest and say i said ill release my first pinky over 10 kg got 1 and kept it . dont know if it is adrenalin or what but hey it still tasted good.
When almost everyone on this site is a greenie about freezer filing until someone say's they wouldnt keep a big fish then everyone wants to jump on their back using the excuse that it is within the rules
yes people will stock up for sure, and as long as no rules are broken who cares if they fish for the freezer, who would pay those prices for fish anyway, again as long as up till the ban no rules are broken then go for it i say.

(for using his account) and I know he dosent realy mind, and although Rodrat didnt write the said comments It's a good job he agrees with me......I think....but I do stand by them but please dont get all green one minute then talk about stocking the freezer the next just because you cant have your favourite fish for a while it's a bit hypocritical And as for the pinky in question..it's a fantastic catch and remeber my comments werent about weather it was right or wrong to keep the fish it was about the freezer filling attitude and I honestly dont know what I would have done keep or release
And to all the virgins..............Thanks for nothing!
well done mate the last time i saw a pinkie that big was back in the eighties(1980s) not meters and there was about 36 of them in one boat the boat was nearly sinking there was that many fish in it. i think the damage has been done a long time ago when there was not even a boat limit.
dont feel guilty about taking one fish that big its had alot of good years of breeding. yes it may of had some more in front of it but it wouldnt of been long until it was shark food.
if we increase the size limit surely that would give the fish a few more years of breeding?
my rule of thumb if you have to measure it chuck it back!
good fish any mate well done must of been one hell of a fight. wot sort of gear was you using? wot depth? just trying visualize how much fun you had.
My mate has come out with me and got 10 kg pinkies on two seperate occasions...we kept both fish, partly due to excitement and partly due to not having a camera on board. From memory, those fish didn't taste nearly as nice as the smaller ones and I'd like to think that if and when we get another big one that we might release it, but as mentioned earlier, it's hard to say until you get there!
To me the most important fish in the system are the ones that have just reached breeding age so I don't feel that the stocks are being harmed when one of these big "breeders" gets knocked on the head. They've more than done their job of making lots of little snapper over many years. It is sad, however, when you think of how those big ones have managed to avoid 30 or so years worth of sharks, seals, nets etc only to have a punter with a mulie or a squid put an end to it all.
Oh, and if you own your own boat and pay for all the fuel, rego, insurance etc dhuies cost a lot more than $80/kilo!

An awesome big rezzy fish (long too). I too have no issue with the take as that would be a very hard decision!

Hey Rodrat get of your high
Hey Rodrat get of your high horse, I ve released heaps of fish over the years and still do.
Having a ban for 3 months is going to make alot of fishmen fish for the freezer that other wise would not.

I tend to agree Chezza
I tend to agree Chezza having to buy fish from a pro during the ban for $70-80kg
tends to make me feel a little hipocritical when I dont support the pros fishn when we can't!!!

Release it!
The correct sustainable thing to do would be to release it - but i know if i caught it i would be gently passing Pinky farts right about now.
