perth to broome then back to perth

perth to broome then back to perth

had to drive to broome to deliver a boat at the start of the week. got there in a day and a half dropped it off and stayed the night in broome, I left the next morning and decided to have a sleep in the car near the blow holes in quobba. Was the flattest ive ever seen it there, all I could see on the beach was thousands of ghost crabs then all of a sudden below my feet baby turtles started to come out the sand (I must of been right next to a nest) the ghost crabs started to grab them and run off (I understand its nature and we are not meant to mess with it) so I ended up collecting I giant bucket full of them and chasing crabs away.

I took the turtles closer to the water so they can make the last 2 meter run themselves ( if I didnt do this none would of made it because they was crawling away from the water and there was too many crabs) as they entered the water you could see a few small sharks on the surface splashing and hitting a few. I hope I managed to help them and was a very special thing to see :) wish my kids could of been there to see it

great sight to see, that'd be!

Usually when they crawl the wrong way unfortunately its due to artificial light confusing them hence why all the boats at Barrow etc have to have shrouds etc over the floodlights.

ps, nice to meet you at Stony's the other day

...I thought the pic was a tattoo! Would've loved to have seen that, and I think anyone else would've done the same...in some places they put nets above the nests and little fences

around them to reduce predation. Cool story!

Oh yeah...also saw somewhere that under natural circumstances, only about one hatchling out of 100 survives to adulthood.

Love it!, have seen similar with the turtles crossing a reef at low tide and octopus getting them, needless to say I stocked up on bait!

good on you I reckon mate, sometimes you got to help nature a little bit after all the other blocks man puts in the way.
