Hey Matt, are getting these

Hey Matt, are getting these fish at anchor and burley or just drifting over ground?

Have caught fish on the Octa's but never on the metal jigs, do you use a violent jigging technique or a gentler approach.

How far are these fishing chasing the jigs from the bottom.

Interested to know as you seem to be doing well lately.

Cheers Steve

We were drifting. (I did get a dhuie on the berley on another trip though). I've used the octas before, but lately have preferred jigging. I just think its more excting. I'm not an expert and have only tried this method this year, but so far I've found a firm jerk, and then a 'normal' paced wind in slack works. Best thing to do its to watch your jigs in the water. How fast, how much you jerk them, and how much slack, and how quick you wind in are things that affect the jig, as well as all the different types of jigs. So just try each jig in the water with different actions, til you get the one you want. I think most jigs are setup for one action, but they can be versatile, especially if using them unconventially :p

The fish seem to chase them off the bottom pretty far. I ocasionally get them on the first jig or two, but sometimes they wait til its 10+m off the bottom before hitting it. Caught a couple of sargeant bakers that all waited 10+m for example, and they're bottom fish. So i normally come up 20m (or 30 if its 90m deep or so). I dont know whats best, these are only observations from my limited experience.
