how big do these shovelnose sharks get and is this a regular catch during summer months ?
in S.Africa on the northen coast(durban) u find some monsters well over the 100kg mark - these are called gaint sandy's (there called sand sharks in SA) u also find the smaller cousin, there more light brown/cream colour and are found through out the coastline - these dont grow much bigger than 10kg tho . and can become a pain in the arse when chasing kob's/mulloway ..... often catching 20 plus in a day, all realesed , still good fun to catch.
i know they get big, i hooked one in the creeks that would have gone over 3 meters in length in about 2.5 m of water. Took me about 40 minutes to land on the barra gear
when i caught one in busso i just like dropped my line in stright down in like 2m of water and though iw as snagged. just pulled it up like a rock and my mate dove in and grabbed it.. no fight what so ever on like 10 pound line. it was probs about 1.5m and was released safley but yeah seriously no fight... y do u guys get the fun ones?
