Sneaky Canadian trip
Over in Vancouver for 4 weeks work, and decided it would be a plan to try for some salmon. Me and 3 blokes from work grabbed a local charter boat (nice 29 footer) and headed off for some fishing Cannuck style.
Very different to what we are used to, with very long and extremely soft 10 ft rods and fly style reels with 25 lb mono......ya need to let go of the handle and palm the reel for drag.....OLD SKOOL!
Standard fare was to troll whole anchovies (small mulies for the sandgropers) at around 1 to 2 knots, using downriggers. When in Rome.....
A bunch of fun with unbelievable scenery, and ended up landing 7 Coho Salmon (one of the Pacific Salmon) with 5 keepers. Best fish was around 7 lb. Heaps of meat on each fish and cooked up an absolute treat on the barbie with some mash and chilli snow peas.
Heading out this Sunday in the hunt for Sockeye Salmon, which are the ones that do the big runs up the rapids....
Sorry about the photos....first effort at posting photos......pretty average!
Cheers from Canada

Canadian Fishing
Used Sewells Marina charters. About $150 each for 4 on board, so nice and personal and once we convinced the captain we had all fishd before and he could stop taking the rod out of the holder, striking the fish, and half reeling it in before he handed us the rod, it was all sweet. He laughed and indicated he was used to fat seppos who had never fished before......Great bloke and good fun. Out again in 2 days.
