the 585 are a great unit, just need to tune in properly, have used this unit to 550m and the readings look similar, imo no point spending money on bigger units once tuned in you will get the same result

Gotta agree with getting the 585 tuning right, it's a shit hot sounder when you have it running well

what are we looking at here?  Is the slope from 320m to 300m the bottom or fish or both?  Looks like fish under the number 285 or is all that fish?

RHS side ,from left to right he bottom goes 320 mts to 340mts with a school of fish coming of the bottom on rhs of screen   , LHS is the bottom 5 mts using bottom lock and starts at 0 mts being the bottom and coming up the first 5 mts and showing the seperated fish school

do others agree?  I'm interested in RHS screen only.  So at what depth is the bottom at the far right of the RHS?

Thats right Alan the information scrolls from the RHS of the unit across to the left, so the current depth is always on the far RHS

I think you maybe missing what I was getting at.

Sun, 2011-07-03 14:04

My question was from the picture what do others think the depth is (at the time the pic was taken).  Your first comment (if I read it correctly) was that the bottom was sloping down from 320m to 340m and that everything showing above that was fish.  I'm not sure if I agree with that I was asking what others thought.  If I was to answer my own question I would say around 297m.

sw of rotto, the pics have been taken, grey band and harpuka taken off this spot, other photo a few bass grouper mixed in with harpuka, this photo was taken while moving harro, but you are right at speed the screen fills with clutter, you have to stay under 5knts to get a proper reading, seakem my interpertation of the pic is fish on lhs bottom lock, rhs shows an edge with some sort of coral and fish show

Never really got the hang of bottom shift.

Do you set your range for say 50m, then bottom shift it to 250m, to see 250-300m.
