Yep should have shares in a lot of pubs over that way, Penong, Nullabor and others.
Cactus is a great spot haven't been there for a while, one of the best surf breaks in Oz. Have meant to get back there for a while but when I'm in the area haven't mainly due to having the boat and lack of launching around there apart from Fowlers bay further west (unless you have a tractor). Great landbased around cactus and some very deep water in close. Have caught plenty of big salmon off the cliff over looking the bay and a few bities and eagle rays off the Pt Sinclair Jetty. Still all privately owned land as far as I know. Now has better amenities but otherwise the same.
Cheers

yeh haven't been back for a few years
at the time I had a 12 foot dingy and we lauched off the beach next to the jetty. Used to fish out off the third Island and we caught mobs of snapper. Big seas though........ good diving off Pt Sinclair but plenty of white pointers.
Fowlers is a great fishing location and underrated (which is probably better) and beautiful coast.
Was thinking of hitting Yalata but found a spot east of Cape Arid National Park east of Esperance so going to fish there as its closer. March next year and already planning the expedition.
Why would ya sell the place, ol Ron had a constant herem of female backpackers dropping by.....lucky ol bugger...ha ha.

Paul you can launch right
Paul you can launch right next to the jetty at Pt Sinclair, rock hard sand and a easy launch. The ab divers use it a bit with 6-7m boats as well as Penong locals and never get caught out. Opens up HEAPS of good bottom spots for snapper, nannygai and all the usuals, plus crays if you've got pots. Also the bay itself is worth a KG or 2 if the wind's up. It's easier to launch there than Fowlers.

Hey Tim, which side of the jetty (looking out into the bay) would you be launching from at Pt Sinclair, having trouble picturing it as its been a while (right side of Jetty is reasonably shallow from what I remember). Have five metre (old stlye reasonably heavy glass boat) and an commodore. Would that be feasible to launch with (or will it cost me a carton of beer). Would love to get back there particularly with the use of my boat. the area certainly has a lot of potential and very little fishing pressure.
Is the rope swimming enclosure still there complete with Great White sized hole on the seaward size (probably around 15 years since I was last there). If I remember correctly there is a plaque near the jetty in memoriam of a young lad who dived in off the jetty to swim to a moored boat and only made it half way.

You launch on the left side
You launch on the left side of the jetty if you're looking out to sea. As you come down the hill, there's a toilet block on your right and behind that is the ramp down to the beach and the laucnhing area. If it's been 15 years since you were there it would've changed a bit, they built up the carpark and extended in a little onto the beach so maybe the ramp is newish too (when I say ramp I mean the ramp onto the beach). I probably have a photo somewhere I'll put up later.
The shark netting is there still but I think they pull it up in winter so it doesn't fill with weed. Biggest boat I've seen launched there was a big heavy 20' glass boat and did it easy. If you're camping at Cactus and are worried about getting bogged offer someone with a 4WD a free fishing trip if they become your "rescue vehicle" if you get caught. Wouldn't do the launch 2wd however as it's sand all the way. Opens up Pt bell to the east and the Tuckamore reefs to the west- loaded with snapper. If you do go let me know and I'll dig up some of my old coordinates for you.

Cheers for the info Tim will
Cheers for the info Tim will put it down for a future trip as I'm going to Pt Lincoln next april.. Don't mind forking out a carton or a trip out to launch if I have to can always leave the boat in the water for a few days and then get someone to pull it out for me.
Now just have to talk the five star missus into going (will ply her with champas and tell her there is a resort there)!!

there was plenty of boats launching Paul
my last trip I stayed for 6 weeks (late March all of April)
plenty of people around and mobs of 4WD. One bloke we dropped his boat in for him and he just moored it until we pulled it for him and he left. Was no problem to launch. it was about 40m to back down the ramp and drop the boat. As Tim says its easy 2WD to the jetty.
Plenty of ab pro's turned up though, and big boats.
As I said we fished off the furtherest island (3rd). There is a deep drop off on the SE corner and snapper central.
watch for rogue waves though and avoid fishing of the rocks around Pt Sinclair....the plague for the young bloke taken by the pointer is one of many scattered around the point!!
plenty of ground and best "local" spot is right out from the wooden deck/seating that has been installed to comemerate the NZ bloke that was taken by a pointer on his hooneymoon (one closest to Point). Big deep hole full of mulla's and snapper but got to be good conditions and no surfers.......
