It could be the shadow, or you'd started gutting it.. but he looks like hes deformed from an attack earlier in life.. that big chunk out of the guts there.

I caught it from a boat 20 m from shore, I think it had been attacked in early life. The pic was taken on our driveway at lano, 38cm
