Why did he take the outside skin off? That is a bit unusual. The corner join is the one that takes all the force of the motor and spreads it to the rest of hull.

Conventional wisdom is to work from the inside. You clean the old wood off the inside, then prep the inside face and relaminate it, then successively lap the corner join.

The outside skin was pretty rooted looked a bit luke swiss cheese and paper thin on one side and was stretched. but one sde of boat thinner bit of shonk at original build bloody strong now

I must admit I've always heard its just a bad thing to do, but I guess there are always exceptions.
