We vac sealed 3 crabs and froze them to see how the flavour, texture stays, Bob's going to try them at the end of May so will let you know, they were cooked first. Been in the freezer two months.

Vac Sealed Crabs
Roberta - I'm interested in finding out if the crabs were any good? Has Bob tried them yet? I've tried freezing them green and they don't turn out well - too mushy. Thought this is probably the way to go.

just a tip for vaccing
just a tip for vaccing anything with sharp edges, try wrapping it in baking paper before vaccing will stop the vac bags popping!
I wanna get free! im gonna get free! right into the sun!

Thanks for that tip
was also thinking either baking paper or grease proof paper (if they make that any more) thanks coundntcatchacold. Just waiting for the weather to improve and we are off to Leeman, might try some crabing up there also, apparently some nice big blueies from what the locals say.

Hi Pjay
We vac sealed the ones in the picture for 2 months, mainly to see if the flavour (flesh) deterioted, hubbie said that the flavour was 95% perfect.
If you are vac sealing reckon they could stay in the freezer good 6 months.
If just wrapping in glad wrap or freezer bag I wouldn't keep them any longer than maybe 3 months. Best is do your own trial and see what you reckon, flavour wise, date on them.
Friend takes all the cooked crab meat out and freezes in take-away containers, I've had some and tastes like fresh crab meat.
Don't know how the crabs go uncooked, if you want to freeze, maybe somebody else might be able to help you on uncooked.
