been to exxy last year, and fished the same spots with fly as well. didnt have too much luck tho. used mainly blue/white and green/white deceivers amongst others. what sorta gear were you using?
Hi Chris, caught most of our fish on white/flash and chartreuse/white/flash clousers. Actually had 2 BIG permit turn on our flies, just couldn't get them to hit and we didn't have a crab pattern on us. Wicked feeling though.
Both of us fished 8wt rods with floating and intermediate line. The site fishing is amazing there and down in the gulf and easy to get to on foot and by car.
so in the end my gear wasn't that much different from yours, i used a 9 wt rod (orvis silver label, only saltwater combo i got, but a damn good and reliable one) with floating line. guess i wasn't lucky or in the right time at the right place... looking forward to my next visit, maybe with more fish on the fly then!
