I think that was for a pro licence ,there was another one that went with it--a licence to sell fish. The two were not combined then.

Keeping quiet

Tue, 2008-10-28 20:31

I'd better keep quiet,I forget when I got my first one, might give myself a shock on how long ago it was.

66-67 If I remember correctly.Crayfishing fron Lanno.
Old tradition then--if you got 10 bags it was a bottle of scotch as a bonus--to be finished that day EACH!!!!
If it was a non fisher on a Sunday at the pub [only one then]they would tell you to grab your jug and glasses and head into the sand hill for half an hour while they swept the bar out the back into it again--no sessions like elsewhere or untill the cops came for a visit. Then we stayed in the sandhills till they shot through.

Talking of old times

have any of you read the book Cray Tales, all about the cray industry from memory early fifties excellent reading and what they all got up to before regulations.  Think it was written by Annie de Monchaux  you'll get a laugh. First published in 1998 by Nice to be Nice. Believe me you won't be able to put it down.

Cray Tales

Wed, 2008-10-29 16:00

I remember buying cray tails for skippy bait, they were wrapped in a sort of clear plastic type cellophane and mixed with pollard, made an excellent bait for herring, skippy and gardies would line up for it. we also could buy Whale oil,I do not mind not being able to buy either now but shows what the pros used to do
