Trailer repairs - Bush mechanic style
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Sun, 2008-07-06 09:38.
Hey Crew,
I'm heading out to ningaloo station this week for work and am taking my tinny but after giving it a once over have noticed a bit of rust building up near my leaf springs. I will be doing about 60km over shit house roads and wondering what I should take for any bush mechanics that arise. I will have the usual spanners and socket set and other bits and pieces, but was wondering if theres anything I should take incase I need to do repairs? Any tips?
Cheers,
Adam

Check the condition of your rollers or slides or whatever it is that the boat sits on. This is what the boat will be bouncing on down the track and you dont want to wear a hole in the boat.
If your concerned about the springs as feral said get 2 ubolts that can attach the axle straight to the chassis and at least allow you to get out of the poop. Take a hacksaw and many spare blades so you can cut off the old ones.

Got 2 replacement U-bolts, small but will suffice. Also got bailing wire, side cutters, crc and a hammer, will have to do. Will be driving on Exmouth time anyway so I think it will be all good.
I won't be back until the following Sunday so direct PM's to Andy, Tim and Colin. I will check in mid-week to see whats been happening
A few of you guys will have to wait a few extra days for your merchandise items, Dennis (shirt), Paul G + Jesse (shirt and voucher), Jas shirt/sticker, I will get them off as soon as I can.
Cheers,

Yes well
I think the hardest part of the week will be choosing camping spots and dealing with the nomads. South Lefroy at the top and Winderbandi at the bottom, hmmm, now which one...

they both look superb Adam but I remember being there at this time last year and you couldn't see the sand for people, 4WDs, boats, tents, satellite dishes, portable toilets, they even fenced their campsites. Serious 5 star camping.

those white posts on the
those white posts on the side of the road act as a good axel support if your leaf springs go mate. Best part is if it snaps again there is an endless supply of them until you get to your destination
