POTM Kayak Cobia "Shark Bay Area"

POTM contender maybe ???
I just returned from a 10 day trip to the shark Bay Area.
got this Cobia on an X-rap behind my HOBIE PA12
Shimano TEREZ 30-50lb / SPHEROS 8000PG WITH 50lb power pro
almost cut it free when at first I thought I'd hooked a shark (looking at it below the yak in the water)... But then it broke the surface and I noticed the dorsal fin wasn't exactly normal for a shark..
I persisted with the fight and about 20minutes later had this monster thrashing around on the deck trying to wreck everything I had with me
measured 146cm. Couldn't weigh it unfortunately but estimates where about 30kg.
Your guesses on the weight are welcome (P.S. I'm not a small bloke! weighing in at 98kg on an average day)

As a standalone fish that's a contender, but then as a yak capture that's got to bump it up even higher?
Hell cobe Luke!

Nice!!
That is one cracking fish mate, and to land it from the yak is an outstanding effort. Easy 30 would be my guess, you've got the tongue out and all

Top effort
That's a hooter off any fishing platform, especially off a yak.
Would've been very exciting when you got it onboard no doubt there was gear flying every where.
One to remember for sure.

You got my vote mate.
Massive fish there. 9 out of 10 times they are called as sharks until they hit the surface so good call not to cut the line.
Sometimes when the water is quiet, you can hear the fish laughing at you !

Top fish
Reckon if the length is anything to go by would be at least 24-28? They get pretty round when they get that big.

cant help how to submit to POTM but I think just post the photo alone. Search on here. Adds has previously posted how to but others will help. I hardly ever take shots so never post a possible POTM contender.
Back to that cobe. That is a monster in anyone's book. Dont get much bigger than that and my gestimate on lenght is ~28-32kg depending on how fat it was.
Knowing how they fight and an 18kg one dragged my Traily 5.4 around on a drift to an interesting small pattern I would suspect you would almost have been able to ski behind the yak.
They never give up the fight early, and just when you think you have them beaten they get another energy surge and up and away they go.
I personally would love the screen shot but without GPS location as I am sure it will cause a laugh.

Another picture I've just been sent by a mate
not as impressive, but it's in the kayak at least !
sorry fellas no gps track to show... I don't have a navionics card installed in my pissy little LOWRANCE!! And without phone reception up there I didn't bother taking my iPhone with the navionics app installed !!
as far as weight estimates go I'm sticking with the (approx) 30kg !! My Staffordshire bull terrier is 23kg and this fish was considerably heavier than him !! Haha
and just for those who noticed ... no I'm not wearing a PFD ... Yes it is in the FWD hatch, along with flares, GPS-EPIRB, anchor, drift chute...etc...etc

Yes, the tracking will work
Yes, the tracking will work and show where you are...
But it requires 3G or whatever to download the basemap underneath it.. Otherwise all you see is a black grid.. Which is useless to me when I want it to look for contours and structure etc
i should just spend the money and buy the card for my sounder !

Cheers guys. To be totally
Cheers guys.
To be totally honest though ... I don't reckon Landing big brutes from a kayak is that hard really .... You just need to lock the drag up and be patient !!!!
Half an hour of dragging my fat ass around the ocean would make anything submit !!!!

Dude that is a real one off!!
Getting those babies at any time is always a thrill, LOVED the honest story and detail man.
Good luck for more of the same man but don't be surprised if your never to better that beast. Could be a PB for life.
Huge Grats.
Remember, in Bunbury;
LBS=KGS and never actually weigh your fish.
Just guess away!!!!
