Shimano Tiralejo
Submitted by Snort on Sun, 2009-03-22 09:52Hi Guys,
My wife requested i go and buy a new rod so she can use my old one and come out fishing with me (BOOYAH!), so i've been eyeing off the Tiralejo rods which look really nice.
Has anyone had any experience with these rods for beach fishing and what sizes would you recommend?
Also, since i'm going a new rod, i need to get a new reel :) Any suggestions on what you would recommend to pair with the Tiralejo?
BTW, it'll mostly be used for fishing and Hillarys, Floreat Basin and Dawesville

10 Foot Beach Rod Required
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Sun, 2009-03-22 08:14Last week I was unfortunate enough to lose my 10ft Ugly stick combo. (Long story so let's not go there). I am left with a 9ft Ugly I use with light braid and my 12ft Ugly stick for serious beach work. It's like a missing spanner not having that middle of the road option for Tailor, Salmon and Mulloway in lighter conditions.
Rather than rush out and buy a new stick I was woundering if any of you have a good condition spare lying around that you may want to part with for a reasonable sum.
Can any of you guys help out here?
Cheers,

Nautilus shells from a Yellowfin Tuna
Submitted by Lucky Tim on Fri, 2009-03-20 18:41Just going through some of my photos. When I was cleaning a 6kg yellowfin tuna earlier this year I found about 15-20 of these in its stomach. Anyone else found anything similar in their stomachs? Wouldn't have thought a pelagic like them would eat something like this.

calcutta 200b reel upgrade with pics
Submitted by fishyink on Fri, 2009-03-20 18:02upgraded my 200b, running 15pound braid so i upgraded my drag to keep up also made it a bit smoother( jack erskines carbontex drag). also while i was ther i put in some abec 5 ceramic bearings. and lube them up with some rocket fuel for longer casting. the drag washes i coated in jack erskines drag grease then lightly wiped them clean. and coatedwhat i could in a light coat of anti corosion greas and wipe off to help with keeping the reel in good nick, im getting about 40 seconds of freespool, the drag upgrade is suppode to get me about 24pound of drag

Fish Finder Advice
Submitted by mickw on Fri, 2009-03-20 17:58Wondering if anyone can recommend a good fish finder for around $800.....Thats all the allowance the boss will give me
Need advice for a decent Sounder + GPS!!!
Submitted by jus on Fri, 2009-03-20 13:49Hi everyone,
I have just recently bought my first little dinghy (off danobigfish!) and am currently looking around for a decent sounder under $500 if possible. It doesnt have to be too flash or powerful, cos all I intend to use it is for fishing on the Swan..as long as it can tell the me depth, water temp (and where all the big fish are, and what bait to use) I'll be happy :P
Also, can anyone reccomend a decent gps too?
Cheers!

Submitted by iamafunkyboy on Fri, 2009-03-20 11:38
hi guys,
i want to find out as much info as i can about mullaway.
I live in east freo and am land based.
who can tell me how to catch one.
best time of the year, moon phases, bait, rig and where to possible catch them.
I have heard of blokes hooking up from shore to one,
i have heard that they are a magic fish to catch and i have only really been catching smaller species.
i love catching flatties, whiting and herring but i really want to hook onto something really worthwhile.
what can you tell me guys

River sights
Submitted by catchalittle on Thu, 2009-03-19 21:34Went for a cruise on the river today to show the folks the new boat lots of marine patrol bots on the water but while heading back to the ramp at east freo was following a large launch that had the usual business types on board enjoying their drink when 4 lovely blonds emerged from inside one carrying a tray of drinks the other a platter of food and the other two stood around mingling but the best thing of all they were in their birthday suits and boy the pictures that the young bloke took turned out quite well was in no hurry to pass them, would post them up but I think the mods may disapprove,a marine and harbours boat came past us and straight away turned around and started following along side me and mentioned it was the highlight of their day

What size new boat?
Submitted by Snort on Wed, 2009-03-18 16:27Hi Guys,
Just wondering what the minimum size boat would be that you would recommend for trips to Rotto and FADs on a fairly regular basis. I'm a scuba diver and keen fisherman so would be used for both as well as taking the family on day trips to the local islands...
Budget isn't really important at this point, i want to know what would be most practical given our weather conditions from some of you more experienced skippers... Also some comments on what your boat size/type is and how you feel it handles the weather regularly.
Cheers,
Snort

Underwater Housing for Digital Cameras
Submitted by WODF on Wed, 2009-03-18 13:08Gday all, contemplating getting a Panasonic marine case for my TZ5 but @ around $350 I would like to get some opinions first and ask a few questions. Don't get me wrong, the camera is great out of water but is it worth paying that to make it as good underwater? Also could anybody tell me if you can still take good shots with the housing on out of water? What are your thoughts?
Thanks

Light Trolling Outfit
Submitted by WODF on Mon, 2009-03-16 14:38Gday everyone, interested in getting a light overhead outfit for trolling, drift baiting and some jigging with 20-30lb braid. Trolling for hard, fast fish like Mackerel and Tuna, drift baiting for big Snapper and jigging with the Lucanus Jigs and heavy soft plastics. Was thinking maybe a Trinidad or Calcutta? more interested in the reel than the rod. I'm not very familiar with overheads, have used em but not often so any info appreciated. Budget not really important atm as i'll be getting the outfit later down the track. Any thoughts fellas?
