Redfin overkill
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Fri, 2011-11-25 11:46I recently saw a pic a facebook friend had posted, from my home town in country Vic, of his catch of redfin for the day, which he had titled "tough day at the office". I was absolutely gobsmacked by the pic, because I counted 62 fish.. Yes you read right, 62 fish. WTF is someone going to do with 62 fish?? The region has been in severe drought for 10 years, the lakes have been empty and only received considerable rainfall last winter, therefore the fish have just started to re-populate. While redfin can breed to plague proportions in suitable conditions, surely fisheries need to better manage this situation. The fishing this month may be fantastic, but next month, with people keeping catches of numbers like this, will be "a tough day at the office". After seeing this pic it just made me appreciate the fishing available here in WA. Fisheries here are obviously doing something right :)

Red Emperor Data..Old fish for their size
Submitted by Greg Lamprecht on Fri, 2011-11-25 10:55Hi everyone,
Just thought I would share some red emperor data for the North Western WA and Kimberly coastline that a mate in the fisheries gave to me recently.
I was blown away by the age of these fish for such a small size compared to our QLD red emperor fishery. A red around 80cm or 10kg here in QLD is approx 10 years old.
Going off that data I'm confused why red emperor only have a 41cm size limit in WA. These fish are still female and well in truly in prime breeding time. On the flip side i guess they have had many years to breed around those smaller sizes.
Regards
Greg Lamprecht

4m Great White Sighted: Scarb!
Submitted by nwfisho on Thu, 2011-11-24 21:34Hey People,
I was having a walk tonight at city beach and was told by some police that a 4m Great White was spotted at Scarb by a Marine Scientist (Or something of the sort). I am not starting a discussion on kill or not...I am just saying as a warning about swimming in the next few day.
Cheers

Saturday night shark fishing
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Thu, 2011-11-24 18:49Hey guys,
Planning a Saturday night shark fish. We're going to do an overnighter but a bit unsure on where to head. It seems as though the weed around Two Rocks/Yanchep is going to make fishing difficult and can anyone confirm the weed situation up there. Probably wanted to stay away from the moles and Hillary's and my thoughts lay with Brighton beach. Is it worth doing an overnighter at Brighton? Or has anyone got any other suggestions?
Thanks for the help :)

Creek and Barra Rod??
Submitted by Braxi on Thu, 2011-11-24 15:04I am looking to match up a Stradic 8000 with possibly an Ian Miller Mexican Fire Snapper Heavy 5-10kg Rod for creek fishing and barra chasing in the Pilbara. Any other options or ideas around the $100-120 mark? Motackle have got the for $99. I have got a Barra Magnum and am very happy with that so I thought that the snapper spin rod would be of similar quality and suitable for 30lb braid flicking lures and live baiting. Cheers

Demersal jigging outfit reccomendation.
Submitted by surfer on Tue, 2011-11-22 13:35G'day guys,
I'm looking at getting into some jigging for demersals (mainly snapper, dhufish, baldies, Breaksea) this season. Can people give me their reccomendations on what set-up (rod a reel) would be good for jigging with things like soft plastics and daiwa pirates. I'm thinking of running 30 pound braid.
Budget is $500 - $700.

Are they sold through stores or is there a bloke that makes them over east?
Alternatively, how do you LBG guys fix your rods to balloon and live-bait.
