Jurien FADs Project

3 FADs were deployed off Jurien on the 15th Jan 2013. Here are the coordinates;

WAUC North 30° 13.0576' S 114° 34.6623' E

WAUC Central 30° 17.5194' S 114° 36.1417' E

WAUC South 30° 21.6075' S 114° 37.2768' E

The idea of a community-managed FADs project originated on FW, and we successfully constructed our initial FAD with purely community resources. The project was managed by Jamie Moir for WA Undersea, after a grant was successfully secured through Recfish West's Small Grant Program.

The project also enjoyed pricing support from Taylor Marine and Jeyco. Storage and transport assistance from Schaffer Loaders.

Fishwrecked members contributed; Browny donated rope. Grantarctic did some welding. Sunshine donated some cash. Sea-Kem got some galvanising done. Southcity104 did some painting

WA Undersea did a lot more than just receive and spend money. We received the following assistance from members; Cameron N-L designed the current FAD. Byron Smith and Raymond Hill did a lot of splicing Ben Kent came up to help us launch (and operated the camera when he had a spare minute).

If you contributed and and are as-yet uncredited, just get in touch over the details ;) We still have some leftover bits and pieces up in Jurien and hope to deploy another inshore FAD between the banks, will keep you posted about that ;)

Better Fishy Photos - Tips and Tricks

As fishing these days is about more than just the act of catching fish and involves things like sharing the sport through the internet with photos and videos I thought we might be able to start a thread on how to improve our fishing photography/videos and share tips and tricks.

There are so many things that can have an inpact on how a photo ends up - How the fish is held, Sun location, boat clutter etc etc - and if we can learn some tricks on how to better frame and shoot pics we might be able to turn them from happy snaps into lasting memories that capture the situation.

I know we have a few people on the site who have written articles before and had photos published in magazines so any help you guys or others can add would be appreciated.

If anyone has any photos they would like to ask how they could be improved they could be added to the thread as well for comment/ideas from others.

Important****Release Weights Back on the shelves

Through Ryan's contacts in the Tackle trade and Wally's release weight push and Gary Lilley's mould they've got a new supplier and the release weights now (finally) back in production!

So after a few weeks if you are in a tackle shop and you cant see any release weights on the shelves, can you please ask the question.

"When will you be getting any in" if they say, what the!......you just need to say, ring Jason from Sunset Sinkers and he will supply you with some, just to make sure you got that Jason from Sunset Sinkers

Ps Oceanside will stock them

* Yes, no excuses now, stockem, recommend em and use them *

Only one size so far but others on the drawing board fromm what I have read on other forums.

Well done Ryan, Wally, Gary, Jason and all concerned.

Dhufish frames

G'day all you fishermen that target DHUIES , the new RAP newsletter is asking for frames from DHUFISH for research purposes , if you can it would be apreciated if you save the frames after filleting your fish and either dropping them off at a colection point or even save a few up in your freezer and give the people involved a call and they will collect them from your place .

I DO NOT target Dhuies and will never deliberately kill one so I can not help their research but you guys that go out and nail a few could you drop them off.

contact R.A P (Research Angler Program)9203 0111 or call in to the fisheries Lab at Hillaries ( 39 Northside drive, Hillaries boat harbour) and they will help you out ( I think all the Bluewater Tackle stores are receival points for frames ) you can take the fillets off etc they mainly need the heads , if you contact them they will give you the full goss on it but PLEASE try to help out .

thats all this NOB has got to say .

BYE.

HOW-TO: Add pictures/images to the site

Before you start:

1. You must have an account on the fishwrecked site.

2. Your picture must be under one megabyte. If you need to resize the image under Windows XP, I recommend downloading Microsoft's Image Resizer Powertoy. This adds a 'Resize Picture' command to the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer. The medium setting should be perfect for uploading to the site.

Step 1 - Click 'create content' in the main navigation menu. Select create image, and upload.

Or

Step 2 - Click the 'image assist' icon underneath the body text box.

Step 3 - A popup will open. Select the 'add image' link in the upper left corner.

Step 4 - Give the image a title (required), select an image gallery (optional), and choose a local image on your hard drive. Add a description, too, just for good karma.

Step 5 - Click submit.

Step 6 - A thumbnail will appear in the Image Assist Popup. Click it.

Step 7 - Resize the image as appropriate using the dialog boxes in the bottom half of the Image Assist popup. Choose whether to display the photo full sized or as a thumbnail. Change you caption if you really, really, want to.

Step 8 - Click the 'insert image' button at the bottom of the popup, and--presto!--it will be added to you new forum entry.

Deeper water burley cage that releases?

Been doing a bit of searching but can't seem to find a decent bit of kit

I'm looking for a burley cage that I can load up with some solid pieces of burley...cray heads, strip bait, crab shells etc and then once it hits the bottom I can release it.
Fishing sub10m isn't an issue, it's when anchored up in 20-35m of water and wanting to send some burley to the bottom.

does anyone have something they've bought or a tip on how to make something?

cheers

Onslow fuel caution

G'day all. If you're heading up to Onslow  you can't rely on local ULP supplies. There's only one servo in operation that's been limiting sales to 100 litres a day. Today (Wed) they ran out completely. We drove to Nantutarra (120kms) to fill the boat and some jerry's to see us through. They were uncertain when they'd  get a tanker. "Sometime this week" was the best they could tell me. That aside, this is my first trip here. Quite like it.       Good luck, John.

A big thank you to Pirate for an amazing day squidding. Lots of action and lots of yummy squid dinners to come

Denham fishing

We went up to Denham last week and the weather was pretty amazing for a few days, we found octopus the best bait but as for artificials smaller lightly weighted grub style stuff seemed to get a better quality of fish and no sharks, a few snip offs from the makeral but overall better than bait due to no sharks. 3/8th Oz jig heads with the old zman my go to. We went out with no marks and relied on the sounder, don't let the catfish scare you off as some of the best fish came from the same areas, 9-11M slow drift with some lumpy ground on sounder is all the advice I can give. No eskys full but a few decent fish and we were happy.

Onslow fishing and mudcrabbing- help needed

Hey guys,

had a last minute shuffle of plans from Exmouth to Onslow for annual fishing trip so feeling a little unprepared. Heading up in a couple of days and looking for any pointers for Onslow? Assuming around Mackeral islands would be pretty smashed but how about the other smaller islands closer in to the east? Or best to head west to Long Island areas.
also seeking info for mudcrab options either hooking or drop netting..

appreciate any help

cheers

Evolution 600 boats

 Hi All,

I am currently looking for a new boat and have looked at a few options. Some way too expensive to even consider, but there are currently an Evolution 600 Extreme at Rockinham for 130k and 1 or two second hand ones across Aus.

I am after some honest advise on the quality of these boats and if you would recommend them, especially if you own one. Looking at the newer hull design post 2013 I believe.

Mostly use my boat for offshore fishing, diving and couple of overnight trips to the islands across WA. These boats seems to tick a lot of boxes in terms of deck space, stability, finish work looks good. Obviously from what I read you sacrifice a bit of ride quality for stability, however, coming from a 550 aluminium boat I am sure ride quality would be leaps better than my current setup.

Looking for any advise, recommendations.

Regards

Gerhard

Has anyone seen

More Restrictions

Heard on the 6PR fishing show this morning that the daily bag limit for crabs is to be cut to 5 for the entire Southwest bioregion.

Apparently this is to simplify things as it is already 5 for the Swan River and Cockburn Sound.

Death by a thousand cuts, bit by bit we are losing what we love doing.
