Submitted by jonya masel on Fri, 2008-03-07 08:54i have been doing quite a bit of fishing around the traffic bridge in freo laterly, getting a few here and there but the reason why i love going down there so much is that there is always somethign differant down there or a new fish that i havnt caught there before! last night i was down there and as i was walking up 2 the car i was very suprised to see some guy about to go diving in the middle of the night by himslef under the bridge, and you all know how strong the current is there my mate and i couldnt even get our size 6 leads down to the bottem! CRAZY in my oppinion

Question about cray boats and ocy
Submitted by Bill on Fri, 2008-03-07 08:38Just a question. Are the Cray boats still allowed to bring ocy into shore as this is a bye catch my understanding of the new law is no they can't.
I was talking to my uncle last night whose brother is a Cray fisherman and he was unclear on it. he was also warned on Saturday night while they were sitting on there boat having a few drinks his 10 year old son was fishing for herring and was cautioned by fisheries that his grandson could not have a line in the water from the boat $5000 fine if enforced but he could stand on the jetty next to the boat

Pesky dolphin
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2008-03-06 12:48Decided at the last moment to go for a quick fish down off the north wall of Hillarys last night. Arrived just on sunset and after setting up two rods, one with a shimano baitcaster chasing something sizeable and the other with a stradic to cat out unweighted mulies, I went to work trying to burley up some action.
After about an hour of not getting any decent bites, the burley really started to come into affect and I had a good school of bait fish working virtually at my feet.
The hunters soon arrived and I soon caught a couple of tailor - too small to keep unfortunately. But I could see some larger fish dashing about in the outer shadows.
Just when I was thinking all my hard work was about to pay off, along came a dolphin - which proceeded to rip through the bait school and move everything off.
It took me another hour and the rest of my burley to get something happening again - and the cheeky bugger came along and did the same thing.
I am sure it was having a great laugh at my expense.
It was still a very beautiful night and it was good to see that there was a lot of bait fish around.
I will take a camera down next time and catch that dolphin in action.
All the best, Colin Hay

Unusual tides
Submitted by dtr on Thu, 2008-03-06 12:22Gents,
Can anyone tell me about the tides on the 3rd March, they were weird in that the tides up in the Pilbara were like one hour apart and no change in height, Derby had 6 changes in the tides during 24 hours, the last ones were only an hour apart and no signifigant change.
It's the first time I've noticed tides like these.
Cheers,
Dan.
Exmouth 08
Submitted by Gully on Thu, 2008-03-06 05:41Well that time is coming up again,
In less than 1 month I will be off to the lovely Exmouth for the annual 2 week trip with Jay, Ewan and hopefully Dazza.
The aim this year is for bigger and better footage and photos as last year was a bit of a downer in that respect. A few billies wouldnt go astray either so Ads - get onto it mate and suss those buggers out would you.
Anyone else up there at that time? (from 4th April for 2 weeks)
Cheers
Gully

Submitted by madriap23 on Thu, 2008-03-06 04:26Gday guys, wanna say hello to all members.
I found fishwrecked.com whilst surfing around in the web, and i´m very impressed of your amasing pic´s, so i logged in. I live in the alps (bavaria) and our fishing is totaly different to yours - only freshwater and mostly flyfishing. In my country there is no fishing allowed until 15. April so i daily browse your pics to make me hot, i will post some pics of our species to show you what we catch in the alps.
Cheers

Exmouth hire
Submitted by mtchye on Wed, 2008-03-05 14:07Hi guys,
Been lurking around here for a little while. Looking to head up to Exmouth around the 19-28 March and trying to figure out if I can hire a dinghy from Bluewater and some sort of 4wd to tow it. Given many of you appear to have extensive Exmouth experience, would anyone have any experiences with hiring a 4wd from the many car hire places around the place?
Cheers
Vincent

Submitted by Turbo on Wed, 2008-03-05 00:31Gday all,
Thought I would say hello and thank you! - Followed a lot of advice I read on here and it has paid off big time!
Its amazing how using the right gear and technique can make a huge difference in your catch.
Always enjoyed fishing growing up but never had any luck, mainly due to the fact I was using wrong line, hooks, rigs, bait and technique!
After picking up some quality gear and following advice, I have been out on the swan catching heaps of Bream on a friends runabout.
Using 10lb braid main line and 12lb mono trace to a No. 2 baitholder with a whole river prawn has been working very well - biggest Bream was 1.2kg (pics up tomorrow). Been catching them from about 5am - 7am close to the Maylands boat launch in the snags - not another fisherman to be seen!
So the bug has bitten and the bank account depleted, Im now trying to convince the wifey that I need a runabout.
Until then Im boat-less and will probably be heading down to Hillarys or other NOR spots to chase something else - keen to catch up with any other members heading out too.
Cheers,
Reece

In close getting fished out?
Submitted by Dean on Sun, 2008-03-02 18:07We fished saturday the 1st of march, around the north mindarie - tworocks area in 35-45m, and had a pretty poor day.
Visited atleast 25 spots and I counted 3 that actually had fish on them, we have caught fish from these spots before (about 3 months ago), but yesterday very little.
Spots that produced were out quite a bit further.
how many people are fishing these spots? as we spotted 2 charters, and quite a lot of other boats.

Rock crabs
