New floor installed but found cracked rib - any advice
Submitted by GotOurFish on Mon, 2026-04-06 20:09
Just ripped up and replaced the floor with new timber & carpet, cleaned the inside of the hull and all looks mint. Only problem is I noticed a cracked weld on the front port rib.
I have access to a mig welder set up for ally welding, but unfortunately my mate and myself are amateurs (will be removing fuel tank) so before we decide to tackle the job does anyone have any advice & has anyone had to do this before?
It's a quintrex 490 (I have checked all other welds and they look fine)
Anyway, I've added pictures of the old & new floor along with a picture of the broken weld.
Cheers in advance

Ok mate welder here and I
Ok mate welder here and I have literally done similar repairs on my quintrex
You will need to get in there maybe with a dye grinder and clean it back to bare metal or you'll have no chance. Volts up and wire speed, try get a test piece of ali similar thickness.
If you really get stuck PM me.

I've decided to drag the boat down to gero and get it welded up, while it's down there going to get some spotlight brackets added and a spine put in for the floor.
