new 3 piece rods are pretty good as far as I have found and the convinience of having it shrink down in size when travelling is a big plus.

Unless you stick with the fibre glasss rods like snyders etc there isnt many graphite 1 piece rods I have seen around(off the shelf)

Ive had a 13ft Snyder 1 piece for 21yrs brought it from Campbells along with a deep spool Alvey and both are still doing very well (they make a great couple) they have ahd many dates to Steep Point and stacks at the beach.

I have thrashed this combo and put a shit load into fighting some big rays and it hasnt missed a beat. Stick with the Snyder 1 piece.

Once you go graphite, you'll never turn back

Once you go graphite, you'll never turn back. It makes such a difference to casting and feeling bites.

About 18 months ago I went from fibreglass surf rods with mono line, straight to graphite rods with braid. Man...what a difference. I couldnt believe how many bites I was previously missing. You can feel everything. I am still getting used to not striking so hard when I get a fish on. A few times I have just about ripped a fishes head off!!!

Now when I go back to my old snyderglas, if feels like a pool noodle. Too floppy.

I agree with Graphite comments

With a worsening bad back I tried graphite as a substitue for my glass rods. Wow! What a difference. My glass rods now only come out occasionally and probably will eventually become relics on the rack. Pembo's comments are spot on.

One piece sticks of the glass type have been real winners in the past. Especially for the Alvey addicts. My issue is that you need to be careful when travelling and avoid dense tracks such as those I tend to end up on in search of a secluded good spot. After all that's why I own a 4x4. 2 and 3 piece rods store easily in protective rod bags (or should be) and stow inside the vehicle easily. With carbon rods it's particularly important you use the rod bags as the do chip easily and I have snapped the tips off a couple because they are so brittle at the tips.

this is a no brainer,

this is a no brainer, graphite rod, once u get yr head around the sensitivity and higher price, youll think why didnt i go graphite soooner.....lighter, far more responsive and ill back any good saffa blank over the sloppy old snyder any day

mate i still have  my 13ft mag surf from campbells but its a collecter piece (maybe) and will never use it again......the closest ive got to the old balnks  is one particular blank which is graphite whith a single wrap over the top and its the best rod for baitcasting otherwise graphite all the way
