Sun, 2010-07-04 19:13

Cheers Brody yer I've been cleaning up on the plastics for a while now and don't worry there's no shortage of pics i'll put a few up soon. An thanks for the comment Dhuboi i'm with you hard to get a good photo, especially when ya in a hurry to get the plastic back in the water ha ha and Nelly i mainly use Squidgys in the 110 - 145mm size and Gulp jerkshads in 4 - 7 inch and i also use bay rubber style jigs when the wind and current are up.

Hi Twitchy,   Nice fish

Mon, 2010-07-05 15:10

Hi Twitchy,

Nice fish mate

Have you had a go with the Snapback Jerkshads?

I have found these to be great for your type of fishing as they are nice and tough and still catch fish (3 x dhu in last two trips). A bit of the Squidgy S Factor rubbed on them seems to add to the attraction.

The Squidgy Flickbaits also seem to be a good option, however the wrasse can give them a bit of a hiding at times.

Cheers Steve

Anytime mate , i hear ya you

Mon, 2010-07-05 00:47

Anytime mate , i hear ya you get a decent fish in the boat rush to get a photo slap it in the esky n get fishing again while the fish are there. I might have to try some placcy , tried throwin a few octo jigs down and some tsunami 6 inch placcis only to score a few wrasse n some black arse cod , hopefully get a dhuie on a placci soon , . Decent fish mate no better thrill then seeing that colour come up out of no where

Where you trying for a Dhu twitchen

Mon, 2010-07-05 14:03

I would have thought 13m was shallow, and using light gear make me think you where after something else and the big bad boy came along as a surprise. I would have loved that.

Same thing happened to me in Dampier Saturday. Was on a reef with lots of NW snapper, especially Spanglees which are few and far between here sometimes. Drifted a Mulie out on a gang to try and get a big one of these on the Barra Impoundment Rod with a Curado low profile OH, and got slammed by a 12kg Mackie, which caused a few hairy moments wondering about beein spooled. Managed to use a bit of thumb drag on dry braid with the burn to prove it. Awesome fight on light ish gear.

For Dinner tonight!

Neels

Hi Neels

Mon, 2010-07-05 15:01

Nice catch on the light OH gear Neels that Mack would of pulled some serious string for sure, and yer i usually always fish shallow reefy/coral in 4-18m for my Dhus, Baldys, Trout, Sambos, Pinkys etc with plastics, and when i say light i mean 3000 Stella and pe3 6'6 Bayrubber Spin rod 20lb braid. I mainly catch and release so fishing the shallow stuff is better for realeasing the fish, and I catch a lot and I mean a lot of fish in the shallows where i live. Cheers

Hi Stevef

Mon, 2010-07-05 15:29

Yer mate i've got more plastics than the tackle shop i work at ha ha tried them all and feild tested pretty much all of em. I've had divers dive on my plastics over at the Abrohlos Islands and they are amazed at how well they work, the plastics i mainly use at the moment have been the most effective for me over the last 18 months but yer the snap backs are great an i also smear some s factor on them but mainly only use snap backs when toothy critters are around. And as for results last 6 trips out have resulted in over 80 Dhuies all on plastics. Cheers
