sounds like it was a great day on the water. you ended with a nice feed there, those kg's would go down well , but as mentioned the foxies are nice eating too . even still you gotta be happy with the day
I don't like Foxfish, it's white meaty but I think it's mushy and they are a very slow growing fish so I don't like keeping then. Only had on boat fishing licence as well!
We caught a thumper of a Scorpian fish on the weekend but I didn't know what it was so threw it back. So are they good eating then? Anything I have to look out for if I catch one in the future?
Anyone know where I can get a decent book that shows all the fish species so I don't throw any good eating fish back in next time? I have the one for North West species (images are crap though) but I have never come across one for Mid to South West species????
We never chuck a scorpion back. Just grab it in the mouth with a big pair of pliers and run yor fillet knife down both sides. Dont forget to wrap the frame up with heaps of newspaper so you dont get stung on the way to the bin!
Shark is frozen for a curry, the skippy was eaten fresh mixed in with rice and the rest was cryovaced
I've got a couple of fish id books. Best one to start off with is "The marine and estuarine fishes of South western Australia" by Hutchins and Thompson
I got stung by a scorpion fish recently after telling my mate to be very careful , they can be bloody painful . thought they might be good eating as anything with a big mouth usualy is but have never tried them .

Nice report and a good feed
Nice report and a good feed too.
ANy particular reason you launched at Coode St?
Seems a bit of an odd place to launch if you are heading offshore, especially since it isn't even a very good ramp from what I remember.

I think it's quicker and
I think it's quicker and cheaper than launching at leeuwin, especially when u have to drive down canning highway in the morning.
I can also tidy the boat in the 8 knot areas and the ramp is 2 min from home.

Nice KG's Train, good feed with the scorpions too. I rate them at number three behind KG's and baldies.
