2 year and 11 month Pinky!
September 2017 was the last time we managed to get a size Pinky on the deck and in that time we have had family fishing/camping trips to Shark Bay, Exmouth Gulf and plenty of sessions out behind Garden Island.
Well Monday was the day.
With forecasts suggesting near glass out conditions, my mate cut a Margeret River family holiday a few hours short and and picked me up and we headed down to Woodmans POint for a launch around 4.
We headed out to a spot between Carnac and Stragglers that we stumbled across last year and found skippy at. The wind and swell conditions were not as per the forecast so we popped a couple of his special sea sickness pills and threw some baits out and waited
and waited and waited.
hen I noticed his rod buckle over. He quickly jumped to action and after identifying the head shakes I suspected we were onto a winner. I removed the other three lines from the water and prepared the net when it appeared. Calmley he moved to the other side of the boat when the fish was on the surface and i slipped the net under the fish and a great deal of cheering, man hugging and high fiveing followed!
We were absoloutely thrilled to land this fish which came out at 73cm and 5-6kg.
We lasted until around 6:30 when the breeze started to swing and a few bigger swells were creeping over the reef. Well, more so, i asked my mate if he minded if i have a spew and he objected so that combined with the conditions changing decided that we move on.
Quick trip down to Harding rock which was too busy then over to Sulphur rock where we threw the pick in and cooked up some hamburgers for dinner. DIdnt get a bite.
Final spot was over to the D9 dozer where the sounder was showing huge amounts of life though all we got was weed.
Generally I dont mind being outfished by my kids and today was the same where I didnt get a bite after 4 hours on the water! Very quiet evening though very happy and lucky to have something to show for it!

Well done I went out as well more so because I already had bait and burley defrosted and in the boat ready to go when I got home from work. I thought conditions looked great for a pinky but didn't get any bites. Good catch and good to break the drought.

We have always had a mutual agreement to split whatever we got so it was a quick 2200 learn how to fillet job and dinner last night.
Even though I didnt catch it, I like to tell myself that I was involved as I spotted the rod going off and netted the fish! Team effort LOL

Thats a good fish, we were into them out deep in 90 meters last week, instead of being mauled by baby's it was 80 - 90 critters with a lot spitting the hook half way up. Any way well done..
