As close to the keel as
As close to the keel as possible and as far back as possible. Make sure absolutely no fittings, strakes etc in front of the transducer. These puck style trannies are veyr sensitive to any minor imperfection. I had hull paint on my boat, and ended up sanding it with 400 grit to remove little nicks and bumps and that made a big difference to the readings at speed.
