27mhz to VHF
Submitted by Daryn on Tue, 2020-03-03 11:53
I'm looking to swap my 27mhz radio out for a VHF system. I have a GME base and aerial:-

The base has 27mhz stamped on it, but it looks like I can just buy a new Aerial and reuse this base which will save a whole load of work - does anyone know a reason that won't work?
Thanks!

The running of cables is the big issue here. Everything is routed through some small holes to get from the console up into the Rocket Launchers. Looking at it I think there would be recrimping of the connectors required to fit it, which would take it out of my league and then will become an expensive job 8)
I'm also not sure if there would be room for more cabling without enlarging holes, which then means rerunning all the cabling for lighting as well. PIA!

Use the old cable as a draw wire for the new one.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

The holes are too small for the connectors - not as easy as just pulling cables through.
I'll live with a single VHF unit - I lived with a single 27mhz radio without thinking about it for long enough.
Thanks all - time to go buy a new radio.

The outer section of the
The outer section of the cable fitting usually unscrews to give a much smaller profile for this exact reason.
