2nd transducer

Aye up.

I am currently running a 627 alongside a HDS7 Carbon as a dedicated plotter but am thinking of chucking on a Totalscan transducer on the port side for added structure/side scanning capabilities especially for searching around the shallows of the 3 Mile. Has anyone done this and find it helpful and did they run into any issues with interference etc?

Starboard side

Fri, 2019-08-02 11:58

The starboard side tends to be the most reliable side as the direction of a standard rotation prop will create more turbulance on the Port side. If you can mount both transucers on the Starboard side, you also want the side-scan to be lower in the water (closer to the keel) than your standard skimmer transducer so that you don't end up with a black spot on the Starboard side when side-scanning. Having said that I'm sure there will be people who have managed to pull great results with transducers on the Port side. My advice would be to rig temporarily and see what works best for you prior to committing to the install permanently.

I run two

My setup is a S2009/TM275 on the port side and a GO9/total scan tranducer on the starboard side (both in the same position on opposite sides), I am able to run both concurrently and have not had any issue with interferance so far.  I have no problem reading ground at speed with that setup, boat runs a pod and single 200hp. Obviously turbulance issues would depend on transom layout.

I run the 3d transducer on the port side and 1kw tm at the bottom of the keel between my engines. No interference and holds bottom up to 45 knots.

Previously ran multiple sounders with transducers on each side and never had any problems.

On my old boat I ran the standard lowrance HDS tranny next to a P66 for a 627, so both on the starboard without issue, they were prob a few inches apart. I tried the Lowrance tranny on the port side but it was shit  there so stuck it next to the P66. On my current boat I still have the P66 on the Starboard and have the HDS connected to an in hull P79, again no issue.

Just fitted a 3in1 active imaging tranny (similar to toatalscan) to the port sideand i've had no problems. side scan and down scan aren't designed to work at highspeed , but 50/200 still works great

I have SS3D tranny on the port and p66 starboard, no electrical interference and both read clear as day in suitable conditions. You'll find more ground with the structure scan than with the furuno, most sessions i dont even take my 588 out with me anymore and solely rely on the Structurescan
