Swim

Mon, 2016-06-13 11:36

Why didn't they just swim to the mainland? Does not make sense really, the gap is bugger all wide at the best of times and not very deep.

I was at Wedge yesterday till around 1130

Mon, 2016-06-13 13:46

Was choppy as the north wind met the south swell on the bar.

Probably about 1.5-2m of water on the sand bar, looked deep.

Swell was very small but conditions were not pleasant.

I left as the weather was closing in.

To think people went out in a small tinnie is a laugh, didnt take the correct precoshens haha (flashback)

A fair way from ledge point.

Would have been easier to drive to lancelin or wedge

Luckily no grey suits around in the water.

Fine

I hope the police fined them for not having the appropriate safety gear onboard. No flares or EPIRB. Whilst it was a good result I am sick and tired of idiots doing the wrong thing and then others have to waste time looking for them plus the cost of the search.

Capsized ?????

Tue, 2016-06-14 11:10

The article said the boat capsized. The story I got said it was anchored & the rope broke in the swell & with no second anchor they started drifting towards Madagascar.
With no radio or beacon, they decided to swim for it instead of drifting with it.
Good decision giving that nobody was told of their stop off on the way home, which meant they could have drifted east for around 18 hours before the alarm was raised.
As Iceman said, some folks just don't take into concideration, the welfare others that put their lives into possible danger to go looking for them.
A radio, beacon or just a simple call to let someone know your plans, could mean the difference between life or death.

 There are too many

Tue, 2016-06-14 13:28

There are too many inconsistencies with their story.

Fu$k'em.  We are often too forgiving when accidents like this happen  due to stupidity.

Yes agree. Big fines should be the order of the day. I hope the real truth is exposed.
