3 mile Blue fin Tuna

Set out this morning from Hillary's early, trying to make the most of the small window of calm weather.

Caught a couple of squid from near little island then headed a little Futher out, we anchored up and got a good burley trail going, I was flicking a lure around and caught my first Bonito. Father in Law was bringing a wrasse up when an absolutely massive sambo nearly grabbed it boat side, that would have been fun on his bream rod....

When the wind came in we decided to have a little troll to see if any more Bonito's about, 10mins later my reel is screaming and a southern blue fin ends up on the deck, lovely!!!

Tonight  we enjoyed Sashimi, and tuna and squid thai green curry, all in all a good day.

I caught the Tuna on a F18 classic Bluewater +14, in plichard blue Tim-o, by far my favourite lure for small tuna, caught on a 6-8kg rod on 20lb line, good fun on the light gear.

Youve  been naling those Talior Trolling haven't you? Have you got a red hilux or challenger? I think I may have been next to you at the ramp

Had the mrs Burgundy CRV, was me and the young bloke, tinny runnabout with southwind decals, blue bimini. Yeh, didnt target the tailor, had a quick troll past the spot but was a few divers on the reef. Only had the boat less than a year so Im learnin the area and target species for time of year, got the whiting spot sussed now, headed out just north of LI to 22m, plan was to troll the drop off down to scarbs but the sw blew up. Dunno what depth to troll really, over the reef or the drop off, theres a gap or trench along the reef there, I was just guna try sort of zig zagin the 15 to 18m edge???? Cant wait to give it a proper crack, be good to see how Brock can handle a bit more drag pressure, thinkin of gettin or makin a little harness for him haha, a tuna half his body weight would test him, might get a chance for a quick troll this sat morn

Actually, just had another look at the chart, I think headin north would be better, the drop off from.the reef is steeper, this is where bait fish gut pushed up in the currents aye, thats why the pelagics hunt there???? Doesnt take long to cover ground trollin, suppose keep movin around till you find the fish prob never getum in same spot twice
