4wd fishing rod storage

How do people transport their rods offroad?

I used to just tie them to roof rack, but now with graffite rods and more expensive gear the thoughts of my prized possessions being knocked or bashed on a tree/bush freaks me out..

Was thinking pipe clamps and some pvc tubing, and wrapping them in canvas or something?

what do you do ? What protective gear do you recommend?

Obviously never been on

Obviously never been on corrigations or owned a graphite rod then?!

I wrap my rods in copper pipe foam insulation and then jam firmly into a pvc pipe. Usualy get about 5 or 6 rods into 100mm pvc pipe  with caps taped on each end. I get it all for free but it mite be costly if you have to buy all the stuff yourself, although it works great for me so worth considering.

put the rods in rod wraps before they go into the PVC....or buy the proper rod tubes as they are already lined.....

It's a really good question actually.

Been thinking the same thing.

I put mine in the bags they came with and push them through the head rests on front and back seats. That works but I need to leave room for the dog in the back LOL.

I have attached some

Mon, 2011-12-19 17:18

I have attached some horizontal rod holder to the roll bar on the inside of my Jeep.

They work great. Very similar to this one, but the one I bought has 6 holes. I can carry 3 rods + gaff, without any damage.

Plumbing stores will have it

Plumbing stores will have it and all the end fittings. Use the screw end fitting and get a cam lock from bunnings and fit to cap.

camlock

Wed, 2011-12-21 09:59

Thanks for that great idea!!

did you just drill a hole thru the cap to mount the cam lock,  then cut a slice in the pvc pipe for the cam to slide thru when locking?

if its over a relatively

Wed, 2011-12-21 21:06

if its over a relatively short trip say 100kms, i tie thin plastic clothesline cable btween the front and rear coathanger door rails inside the pathy. lay the rods on top and they dont go anywhere. if you want them to stop touching place a plastic clothes peg on the line between them....works for me.

I  bought the large jarvis

Thu, 2011-12-22 18:42

I  bought the large jarvis walker  rod tube, cut the straps and bolted it to  my roof rack basket via a couple U-Bolt calmps.

Thought about the PVC  thing  but the jarvis  walker  rod tubes  had  foam inside and  wasnt   expensive anyway.

Security wise  it can be  padlocked but  rods are only ever in there  while  travelling.
