7mm anchor chain wanted

 Hi Guys

I recently imported a boat from the states and it only came with two meters of chain?

Im wondering if anyone has around 14 meters of 7mm short link chain for sale or where I can get some?

Cheers

 Just went through this mate

7mm DIN766 short link is very hard to get in Aus and near in impossible in Perth as far as i can work out.

I have a maxwell freedom 500. I removed the gypsy and took it into to the supplier, tried a couple of sizes and 8mm seemed a great fit. Ended up installing 20m of that and its worked perfectly last two trips to Rotto.

These guys have access to 7mm and are very helpful, but are in NZ.

What windlass do you have?

Flick me a PM for more info

Their smaller chain is 1/4" which is rather hard to get in gal in Oz nowadays.  1/4" is 6.35mm. Link length is important with gypsy's , but,if it works on a winch which is on a boat imported from the US, it's likely to be OK.

Went through the same issue

Went through the same issue many years back when I bought my Boston whaler. I wanted to increase my chain length and also setup a separate reef anchor chain.

The issue with trying to source US fitting chain is that (a) if not "entirely" correct size it can/will slip under strain; and (b) even if you do source it, if you ever get your anchor stuck you need to go through the whole issue of sourcing more chain again quickly (so you can use your boat again quickly).

For me, it was a simple decision. Bite the bullet now, get a new AUD chain fitting gypsy, and never have the problem again. Mine was a Italian make Gypsy, but was relatively easy to source when I rang the winch maker in Italy. 2 weeks later, it was in Perth for around $200 bucks.
