Berley
The over use of Berley has spoiled my (once favorite) herring spot. It is now a year round home and breeding area for blowies. If you feel you must use berley then use it sparingly. If using a berley cage put a weight in or near it to allow casting it empty.
The fisheries people (gawdelpus) say blowies must be protected because they are scavengers - we are too dumb to know that all fish caught on hooks are scavengers.
The same people say that conservation is the only way to save fish stocks but it that is just an easy way for them. The best way of all to build up fish stocks is REPLENISHMENT - in other words BREED AND RELEASE.
