Abalone Fishing to go ahead this Saturday
Submitted by Iceman on Thu, 2019-01-31 12:57
The decision has been made that the Abalone fishing will go ahead this weekend.
Given the forecast I find this absurd but as the press release states it is up to the indivual whether they enter the water.
Whitdfords Sea Rescue will have 2 vessels patrolling area from Trigg to MAAC and Burn Beach to Ocean Reef Marina. Surf LIfe Saving personel will all ve on patrol.
Stay safe and remember a feed is not worth risking your life for.

absolute muppets!!!
get some body bags ready for Saturday.
I have lost all faith in the Dept of Fisheriies...
I have been catching abalone since a kid from Mettams Pool since 1974. (50 now). Has been well managed up until now, but the current situation is a joke.
Last time when they cancelled was light offshore with a low swell. Have a look ar Saturdays forecast.
I say again.. Muppets..

Brownie points
Perhaps after the cray allocation fiasco fisheries are trying to get a few brownie points with the public and win back bit of good PR, l hope it doesn’t end up going pear shaped for them.

It was all about not enough fisheries officers
To manage opening off marron season plus abalone fishing on same day. Think about it . There was no other reason for cancelling last abalone day it was perfect. This Saturday very dangerous. Last excuse was pathetic. I don't go for them doesn't bother me ,but you would think if they wanted support /pr ect you would think honestly would be the best avenue

Decision on whether to open
Decision on whether to open or not is based on a set of parameters. Expert advice is sought on these factors so Fisheries can make the best call possible. If a criteria fails, it is reason to close it down.
All the conspiracy theories are just that. It has nothing to do with Dave Kelly, crayfish quota, marron season, surf carnivals or anything else.
It is all to do with one sobering fact, 1 life is lost every 4 hours the fishery is open.
