all depends on the weather , how comfortable your are of your rig on such a trip and also how it handles with the required weights (fuel fishos eskies etc etc) .... its about 28mile to the closest island in the southern group so therefore a rough trip guide to and back plus fishing would be around 65-70mile?? thats for a day trip and probably a minimum distance travelled
i regularly do in excess of 100-120mile on my dive trips over there (usually overnight)... My last trip was 165mile and that was only operating around the southern group....
the weather can also be quiet differnent to that forecast on the coast so a boat that can handle 15-25knot winds if need be is advisable
i have seen 4.5m boats head over and back no worries , but ive also found a group of lads in a 4.5m centre console tinny that had ventured over and let them sit up my bum and hold on like f%6* as we came back with a building swell and roaring southerly aswell... that wasnt quiet forecast but ya get the picture! the looks on there faces when we pulled into the marina was priceless!!!

cheers poddy , yeah would
cheers poddy , yeah would have to be mint conditions to make the run over and back. I guess ill be keeping an eye on it and having everything crossed .
I have a little 4.5 plate runnabout with a 60 4 stroke and about a 80l tank . Well aware that i'd need a few jerrys or more .
This time of the year it may not be possible - maybe a few months ago??

abrolhos economy
I average about 50l to 95km which is a typical days fishing trip for me in Perth so working off Poddy's distances I would need another 2 jerrys on top of what I normally carry which definatly doable for me ...
So the weather is my only conditon and it would be a last minute decision for me ..... watching this one very closely too..
Cheers fishfish

September 29,30 October
September 29,30 October 1st.we did the trip a few months back and used 200lt of fuel..for two days.We had four people and four sets of dive gear 8tanks and 400lt of fuel. So we had a lot of weight .Conditions were good the time we were there, but as said thing can get rough very quick .I have no problem with others tagging along .Trip across together and each can do there own thing each day ,then anchor up together at night for drinks.then travel back together.you will need to know your boat and fuel consumption.and be a competent.skipper in all conditions .I have a big boat so if it blows up unexpectedly I will have no worries heading back to Gero. .Smaller boat could get in behind bigger boats if thing blow up .

weather permitting Ill be
weather permitting Ill be heading over the weekend before that, on the 29th we will be heading up north or Id be there Paul!
Some stats for others doing their first trip.
Trailcraft 5.8 F115 Yam
all our trips have been 3 days, total each time between 100-120NM, thats with a good run around the southern group and down to inside wreck point. 32NM to nearest point and 10nm to the other side roughly.
Used between 100-130 litres each trip, tank size is 250 so tonnes to spare.
Fill a plastic tub with canned food so you've got a few days food just in case

Tag along
I would be keen to tag along with someone if they have a space. I have a 575 cruise craft outsider with a 150 yammie that would handle the trip but brand new to Perth and never been up that way plus have no fishing buddies yet, would be great to get out there amongst it.

plug for me
Just throwing it out there- but I have three spare Abrolhos overnight charter vouchers that include meals (and big boat and use of tenders, bait, water, showers, toilets, air matrress etc) and if you were able to get accross to the islands they are a bargain at $200. The deal does not include transfers to the Abrolhos.
Could be handy if you wanted a little more comfort, facilities, and lighten the load.
Happy to look into it further if you are interested, perhaps a discount if you buy more than one.
I paid $695 for the three but mates pulled out.
Conversely if you are going across for a weekend/ school holidays I could chip in a large amount for fuel to get across, but I don't think the long weekend works for me.
thanks
